How to update Memberstack user custom fields through Webflow CMS without direct login access? Answered
Hi guys,
I just wanted to ask if you think it's always necessary to sync users with Webflow CMS / Airtable if I'd like my Webflow CMS editors to be able to update users' custom fields without logging into Memberstack.
I want to trigger Zapier automation to create a Webflow CMS collection User items when a new user registers, and then my editor will be able to edit a custom field for a Webflow User CMS item, which will trigger an automation to update a user in Memberstack. I wonder if this approach could backfire. I've used PowerImporter before, but I'm not sure it's necessary on this project.

Your user's source of truth should be Memberstack, which means this is the system who should have all the latest user information. For example, I your user changes their name, you'll want it to reflect it on Memberstack right away. And also you might get on the risk of puting old information as new if you don't set your scenario the right way.
So, assuming you have a Webflow and Airtable CMS in your infrastructure, you need a scenario that takes info from Memberstack and dumps it into Webflow and Airtable
To keep it in sync you will need a scenario that takes the change from Webflow as trigger and populares the other systems
And if you wanted to track changes from airtable and sync it with the other systems you will have to create a different scenario but with Airtable as the main trigger... additionally.
That said, keep in mind that all those operations add a variable cost to your monthly maintenance. You will be paying for every scenario run (or zap). There's a system that you might want to evaluate instead of using Zapier (or Make) that's called Whalesync. Depending on your planned usage and budget you should decide what's the best sync automator option that suit your needs.
thanks a lot Raquel Lopez!
