How to enable test mode for one project without affecting other live projects in the same account? Answered

Just trying to put a new app I am building in test mode but it puts my existing app in in test mode too, which I donโ€™t want. Is this right ?? Should I have created a whole new account for another project ??

2 projects in my account. Both are on paid plans. 1 is live and 1 is a new project I am developing. I want to put the project in development in test mode but not the project that is live. When I put test mode on it sets both projects to test.

    Hello James,

Initially when you start a new project is in test mode until you start paying Memberstack, and then you can set your main site in live mode.

Memberstack has two enviroments, Test and Live (production). If your site is in test, all your users will be created in the test part (up to 50members are allowed). And also is for testing transactions without having to actually pay. But when you're ready to launch you have to configure Memberstack so that your main domain points to LIVE mode.

You can find more info here https://docs.memberstack.com/hc/en-us/articles/7595262385819-Managing-Test-Mode-and-Live-Mode-Domains

Hey James Pravato, if you have the project 1 domain in live mode and you have the project 2 domain in test mode under Application domain settings of each app. Then that should be good to go.

When you say that having one app in test mode, sets the other one in test mode - do you mean new members created on the live site are being considered as test mode members?

Or do you mean you can just see the Test mode toggle on in the dashboard? If its just the toggle, it just is a UI and does not mean that the project is on test mode as long as you have the domains set under live mode in the settings.

Let us know if you are facing any issues.

No one on the live site can login and as the live site gets put in test mode too.

Its still happening here are the application domains I have setup. They just cant login as its in demo mode.

I tried signing up on the free plan on the site and have tried logging in as well. And I am able to do both without any errors on my end ๐Ÿค”

But the toggle doesn't really put the live site (that you have setup in the application domain) on test mode. It's just a way for us to see the test mode members, analytics, API keys for test mode. via the Memberstack dashboard. I had similar understanding earlier, but have started thinking of it like a theme toggle, like how dark / light themes are just visual appearances that we can toggle on or off, but the true setting of the website - like you have set in application domain is not changed by it.

So, for example, I signed up on the site you mentioned as AJ Test, if you go to the dashboard of the relevant app and have the test mode toggle on and navigate to Members, you should not be able to find myself as a new user.

But if you toggle it off, you will be able to see live mode members and ideally now you should have a user named AJ Test. Can you check this on your end?

I understand, thats a little confusing if you don't think of it like that, I can see now and I totally understand.

It is weird as the other week when I put the toggle in test mode I had clients emailing saying they couldn't access their accounts. Popped it live and everyone was good. ๐Ÿคฏ possibly that was just bad timing??

Sorry to have wasted your time thanks for explaining

Yes totally agreed, freaked out the first time I experienced this toggle behavior ๐Ÿ˜‚

That's interesting, if it happens again, you could share what exactly do you experience when logging in, if its a test mode live mode issue, you will get a error notification saying something like "You're in test mode, but tried to login with a live account", and vice versa, so that will make it clear.

    No issues, welcome ๐Ÿ˜‡

That is exactly what it said. I was getting messages all over the place and then peeps trying to reset passwords and saying they didn't have an account anymore. If it happens again I will let you know. Keep the account just in case ๐Ÿ‘

Yes sure, also just in case, double-check if there are any static links on the live website which is pointing to the test mode site. I have seen users struggle with this sometimes because one specific button they had was pointing to the webflow.io test mode domain and end-users had no clue about this while logging in etc.

That being said, feel free to reach out in this thread or channel if you face any blockers regarding this.
