How to fix Memberstack CSV import showing success but not importing members due to invalid rows with missing optional fields? Answered

I've tried to upload a CSV of new members. There are 94 members in the CSV.

I am able to click on the import button in the Memberstack dashboard and upload a CSV. I get a small toast that says members are being imported. But nothing happens and I don't receive any error messages. I've also tried uploading an XLSX, copying/pasting table data into Memberstack, logging in and out, uploading in incognito mode, and nothing works.

I sent a message to support last week for help but have not heard back.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello, can I get some help or guidance on how to import members using a csv file? I’m following the video tutorial found on this page, but when hitting “Submit” I’m seeing the following error message (see screenshot below) that says: File has 157 invalid rows. Please resolve the errors before uploading.

What it’s doing is it’s marking every line item in my csv file as invalid because it is missing information (which from my understanding, is not really required to have), but how do I get around this if information like — Password, Member JSON, Member Login Redirect, Member Stripe Customer ID, Member Stripe Subscription ID, Member Hashed Password — are not even applicable to the users I’m trying to import?

Hey Ciara Pattugalan, if you are importing members from different platform (i.e. not from Memberstack), then Member ID is not applicable for your import.

Member ID, Password (or hashed password) is useful if you are importing from Memberstack 1.0 or just trying to import users again to Memberstack etc.

Stripe Customer ID, Subscription ID is useful if you have setup plans on Memberstack and the users are active subscribers and you want them to continue having those access while importing etc.

If that's not applicable to you currently, you can keep the Member ID field empty and Memberstack would generate a unique Member ID for the users. If for some reason you want to store those IDs present in the CSV file currently, you can import it in a custom field which you can create in Memberstack like (e.g. Old Member ID) for your reference.

Can you try importing the CSV after such changes? Let me know if you still face blockers.

A J This is super helpful, thank you — I just tried this and tried to import again, it looks like when I hit “Submit” this time it was successful, but how will I know once it’s done? Because I’m currently looking at the Members section of my Memberstack dashboard and I can’t tell if any importing is taking place…

    Ciara Pattugalan, welcome 😇

After import is done, you will receive an email regarding the number of members successfully imported (along with errors if any).
